Press release: Queermed receives 5th award in six months
This year has started strongly with awards, at least for Queermed. Just like last year ended with awards.
Charitable start to the year, excellent end to the year
2023 was a successful year for Queermed. At the beginning of the year, the non-profit status was finally achieved, which allowed many processes to be professionalised and Queermed to gain visibility within and outside the community.
Queermed’s non-profit status has also greatly increased its visibility within and outside the community. Queermed founder Sara Grzybek has been invited to many events, whether to give talks, take part in panels or give workshops.
Queermed has already received several awards in the second half of the year.
Queermed initially received the German Diversity Award in the LGBTIQ* Change Maker category from Beyond Gender Agenda. This was followed by the award from the Federal Agency for Civic Education in the Active Competition 2023 and the Respect Award from the Berlin Alliance Against Homophobia.
Although the three awards come from different organisations, they all have one thing in common: they recognise the work of Queermed. Sara Samson Grzybek took part in the German Diversity Awards ceremony, although there was already a certain amount of scepticism about the award and its circumstances at the start. However, Grzybek wanted to see for herself what the event would be like. The experience was shared on Queermed’s Instagram account.
The presentation of the Respect Award came as a great surprise to Grzybek.
Queermed had been nominated together with the Berlin rugby club ‘Berlin Bruisers’ and Berlin activist Sebastian Vetter for his work with AHA Berlin and the queer networking organisation Queer Networking Initiative.
The award ceremony and the associated workshop for the Federal Agency for Civic Education’s activism competition will only take place this year.

Direct gifts for the new year aka awards 2024
2023 was a very successful year for Queermed in many respects: Obtaining non-profit status, participating in numerous panels, lectures and workshops and receiving multiple awards, and things continued in early 2024.
In January, Queermed was recognised as a cultural and creative pilot alongside 31 other entrepreneurs. The application process for the cultural and creative pilots is extremely complex and detailed, and well over 600 companies applied for the award.

After the award ceremony for cultural and creative pilots in Berlin in mid-February, the next surprise followed: the first Riccardo Simonetti Award. The Riccardo Simonetti Initiative invited many activists, performers and artists to Berlin at the beginning of March to present its first award.
It was a special evening, especially the first award ceremony for Queermed founder Sara Grzybek. The venue was filled with wonderful, friendly and caring people who are all committed to a more diverse society.
With Queermed as an organisation, five personalities from the queer communities were honoured: Gianni Jovanovic, Max Appenroth, Luisa L’Audace, Riccarda Hofmann and Barbie Breakout, who hosted the attendees through the evening.
