"I chose this therapist because she specializes in trauma therapy (for example, with EMDR) and within the first sessions it was very clear that she can also handle queer topics and polyamory topics. Sabrina Engel provides an environment that prioritizes psychological safety and respect. Her training in handling trauma has equipped her well when I first started seeing her in a more sensitive/vulnerable state and she always makes sure that we end the session in a stable state. I feel particularly comfortable referring her to my friends who are queer, questioning, and gender non-conforming because of how much she has helped me with these topics. She is also very quick to observe pronouns when I talk about other people in my life. What's also rare to find is that she is very knowledgeable on polyamory and has helped me through my queer dating topics. Additionally, she provides an English-speaking (educational and discussion) therapy group for ADHD. She's proven to be knowledgeable on ADHD and can expertly facilitate discussions and activities with a small group of diverse individuals, including multiple queer and genderqueer people. The practice is primarily a private practice but she handled all the paperwork for me so that my health insurance would cover the cost of my sessions. She even handled the paperwork when requesting additional sessions once the first 60 were complete. Unfortunately, the practice is not the most accessible. It is located in a residential area in Eimsbüttel and so there is a cobblestone street, lined with parked cars on both sides, and the sidewalks have varying degrees of quality/accessibility. Currently, construction is obstructing a path on one side so it is harder to go through than usual. It is in a building in a Hof (behind another building), again with cobblestone. The door does not open automatically (I believe this will be changed soon) nor do the lights turn on automatically. Additionally, and what is most restrictive is that the practice is only reachable after multiple flights of stairs in a very narrow staircase (spiral). There is talk about an elevator installation in the future but nothing concrete yet. Also, although I am a person of color and very clearly read as a person of color, I haven't had the chance to discuss many topics regarding racism in-depth, but they have come up as part of other topics and she was always respectful where I feel I could talk about race-related topics if I wanted to.
