I am cisgender female, which is why I have never had any issues with pronouns. I once had a minor disagreement with a former medical assistant on the phone, but otherwise everything has always been very pleasant and relaxed. I do find that the whole thing is somewhat heteronormative, but the doctor is extremely empathetic and has made a very positive impression on me on several occasions. I can't imagine that there is any deliberate transphobia or homophobia; there also seems to be a great willingness to learn. During the interview, I mentioned my partner at the time because she asked me about contraception (as I said, still a bit heteronormative in the initial contact), but I immediately noticed HOW embarrassed and nervous the doctor became when she realised her mistake. I never had any problems with this again over the years, as this question can come up more often in internal medicine if you present with gastrointestinal complaints as a female-presenting person. I always politely denied it when it came to pregnancy or similar issues, and everything was fine. I have been diagnosed with ADHD, plus suspected ASD, and there was above-average education and a very sensitive approach when I came in for lab tests, ECG, etc. – mental health issues in general are handled sensitively."
